Manufacturing Engineer
Reporting directly to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, the role of the Manufacturing Engineer is to provide high-level technical and manufacturing support to the Production department by reviewing product designs for manufacturability, troubleshooting design, assembly, and manufacturing issues of all types, improving BellatRx’s manufacturing processes by revising, developing, and introducing new manufacturing methods, updating relevant documentation, and training production employees.
Duties and Responsibilities
Manufacturing and assembly design review and testing
- Review product designs for manufacturability or completeness.
- Estimate costs, production times, or staffing requirements for new designs.
- Identify opportunities or implement design changes to improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of fabrication processes, tooling, production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, product design, materials, and parts.
- Design testing methods and test finished products or process capabilities to establish standards or validate process requirements.
Troubleshooting – Root cause analysis:
- Investigate and resolve manufacturing or assembly problems related to designs, processes, and materials (availability, use, and variances).
- Determine root causes of failures using statistical methods and recommend changes in designs, tolerances, or processing methods.
- Document investigations and interventions and update manufacturing procedures accordingly.
Monitor and improve manufacturing processes:
- Support Production in reducing downtime and scrap by utilizing suitable analytical methodologies.
- Provide technical expertise or support related to manufacturing.
- Deal with NCRs, ECRs, and corresponding material transactions in the ERP promptly.
- Utilize and implement LEAN, Six Sigma, and other best practice tools and principles for day-to-day problem-solving and continuous improvement to enhance manufacturing quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Design layout of equipment or workspaces to achieve maximum efficiency.
- Facilitate continuous improvement for all processes.
Documentation Training and development of Production employees:
- Prepare documentation for new manufacturing processes or engineering procedures, including SOP’s and training manuals.
- Train production personnel in new or existing methods.
- Prepare reports summarizing information or trends related to manufacturing performance.
- Document all activities as required.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bilingual in English and French preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering required.
- Experience/knowledge with process and equipment validation, PFMEA, IQ/OQ/PQ, etc.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Experience with CAD programs is a plus.
- Minimum of 3-5 years related experience in manufacturing or assembly processes.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing / mechanical processes and equipment
- Knowledge of computer or PLC-based machine control systems is desirable.
- Strong skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint) with the ability to quickly learn new systems and tools.
- Good mechanical/technical skills
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
